“Dangal Ladhne Se Pehle Darr Se Ladhna Padhta Hai” ~ Aamir Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat.

Aamir Khan starrer Dangal is a truly inspiring movie that will give you goosebumps. In the state of Haryana, where female infanticide was quite common - a father teaches wrestling to his daughters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. His progressive and never-say-die attitude encourages his daughters to win at the Commonwealth Games.

Take a look at the travel lessons this epic movie taught us.

1. Travel with people who believe in you

Similarly, if you travel with people who believe in you - you’ll bravely cross all the hurdles that may come your way during the journey. Suppose, if you’re scared of adventure sports, these people will inspire you to conquer your fear and help you indulge and enjoy the sport.

2. Learn to fight your own battles - Go, Solo

The last scene when Geeta Phogat competes with the Australian wrestler is soul-stirring. Her father is locked in one of the closets, far away from the stadium. Missing her father’s presence, she recalls an old conversation (river scene) with her father - where he says that he’ll never be always there for her and that she has to learn to fight her own battle and survive all the hardships.

If you love traveling but your family and friends aren’t available. Don’t let your dreams suffer - travel solo and explore the world like never before.

3. Turn a deaf ear to people who say you can’t travel

In this movie, initially, the villagers laugh at the thought of a female wrestler. But, Mahavir Singh and his daughters ignore their harsh comments. Their victory at the Commonwealth Games proves them all wrong and the same people become great fans of Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari.

You may not have money for your trips. Some people may even tease you that traveling is not for you. But today, money is no more a constraint for travelers. You can pick budget trips, stay in hostels, book your flights in advance or go for group trips.

4. Adapt yourself to new situations

Remember when Aamir Khan (Mahavir Singh) realizes that lack of proteins was the cause of his daughter’s low stamina? He bargains with the poultry owner and ensures his daughters have chicken in their daily diet.

While traveling, you may have to step out of your comfort zone. In some places, you'll have to eat or drink according to the climatic conditions of the place or whatever is available there.

5. Don’t lose focus, trust your instincts

In this movie, after moving into the Patiala Institute, Geeta Phogat starts following her coach’s techniques which are different from her father’s training. She loses several matches due to this. On realizing that her father knew her strengths and is the best trainer she can ever have - she switches back to his techniques which earn her a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

On your trip, you may meet strangers or locals who may misguide you with the routes or scare you with some ancient myth. But, stay focused. Before leaving for the trip, do some research, take advice from your friends who’ve already been there, use Google maps and above all - trust your instincts!
