7 Bollywood Movies that Inspire you to Travel

  • 15th July, this was the glorious day that the spark of wanderlust was ignited in a million people. A spark that would make people call their friends up, pack their bags and set off on a journey that would change them. A journey as much inwards as it would be outwards. This inspiring flame was ignited four years ago to the date, in the form of the movie Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara. Yes, it has been four years since ZNMD took us on a road trip through the streets of Spain and showed us the breathtaking places to visit. But that wasn’t the first Bollywood movie that inspired people to travel and definitely not the last. So on this four year anniversary of ZNMD we thought we’d take a look at 7 Bollywood movies that made travellers of us all.

    1. Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara

Bollywood movies that inspire you to travel

What better movie to begin this list with than the one whose fourth anniversary it is. Released four years ago this movie took us on a breathtaking journey of Spain. No movie had gloriously managed to show the enticing allure of Spain as this movie did. Be it the underwater diving, the colourful La Tomatina festival, or the trilling sky diving scene, this movie had every generation hooked. But most of all what struck a chord was the individual journey of the characters, as they grew and changed along with changing landscapes of Spain. 2. Dil Dhadakne Do

Bollywood movies that inspire you to travel

With her last movie Zoya Akhtar made you want to go to Spain, with this movie she makes you wish you were on a cruise trip. The fun and dys‘fun’ction that comes along with being on a cruise, miles away from land with only the blue water stretching all around, and the hilarity that such a situation brings about with it is well captured in this movie. Cruise trips may not have been all that popular before, but I bet things are beginning to change post the release of this movie. If you want to have a similar adventure of your own, all you need to do is take a look at our Cruise Packages.

    3. Queen

Bollywood movies that inspire you to travel

A young girl jilted by her groom on the day of her wedding sets off on their honeymoon alone, traversing through the enticing cities of Paris and Amsterdam, all the while finding her inner self, independence and strength. What’s not to love about this movie? The journey of Rani both inwards and outwards inspired a generation of women to set off on their solo journeys. If there was ever a Bollywood movie that gave women the strength to explore the world on their own, it was Queen.

    4. Highway

Bollywood movies that inspire you to travel

This movie deals with a topic that is harsh and not pleasing, but this roughness is complimented by the rocky yet beautiful terrain of northern India. The majestic Himalayas become a sanctuary for Veera, and in their representation and symbolic meaning lies its beauty. Not often you come across a movie on kidnapping that would make you want drop everything and set off on a journey. That in itself speaks volumes of the powering allure of this movie.

    5. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

Bollywood movies that inspire you to travel

This was a movie that instilled in the youths a need to go on a holiday with their friends before they entered the big world and life as they new it would change for ever. This movie aptly captured the fun, frolic and carefreeness of travel that comes when you’re standing on the cusp of the real world, not yet having plunged in it.

    5. London Paris New York

Bollywood movies that inspire you to travel

Not many know of or remember this movie, but this film starring Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Haydari takes you on a journey to three of the most beautiful locations in the world. The essence of each location is perfectly encaptured by the director, creating a dreamy, romantic atmosphere which makes you fall in love with idea of wanderlust not once but three times over with each new destination; much like the lead pair of the movie.

    6. Jab We Met

Bollywood movies that inspire you to travel

Deemed as one of the most romantic movies of its decade, Jab We Met took us on a romantic journey across India. Through the lesser known streets and villages all the way to the green pastures of Bhatinda. Only to set off from there and travel to the snowy mountains of Manali. But what made this movie so inspiring was the accidental love story between two characters who weren’t supposed to meet or fall in love. Aditya and Geet won our hearts, making everyone hope they’d miss a train or two to embark on a journey of their own.
