1. Rani Lakshmibai - Jhansi
Remember reading your history book about this braveheart who fought with great courage to save the land of Jhansi thereby resisting the British rule? If you plan to travel to this place, you must visit the Fort of Jhansi which stands tall on a rocky hill. You can also explore the Rani Mahal, a museum, where you can admire the glorious artefacts and relive history. You can travel a little more and witness the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and marvel at the mesmerising architecture of the Hindu and Jain temples.
2. Bhagat Singh - Punjab
Well, didn’t you have a hair-raising experience while reading or watching the movies based on this invincible hero of ours? You can travel to the hometown of this hero and visit the magnificent Golden Temple and experience your spiritual bonding with the Almighty. You can also visit the Jallianwala Bagh and pay tribute to the martyrs. Before sunset, you can also witness the Wagah border ceremony at the India–Pakistan international border near Wagah.
3. Sarojini Naidu - Hyderabad
Lets talk about Hyderabad, the land where Sarojini Naidu, the Nightingale of India and a great independence activist was born. Here, you can indulge in chilling moments at the Snow World Amusement park. If you are a movie buff, Ramoji Film City has to be at the top of your itinerary. Other interesting places you can explore are Charminar, the Golconda Fort, Mecca Masjid and the Birla Mandir. Don’t forget to gorge on the popular Hyderabadi Biryani!
4. Subhas Chandra Bose - Cuttack, Bengal Province

Yes, we are talking about Subhas Chandra Bose - the great leader, who was born in Cuttack, Odhisa division of the Bengal Province of the pre-independence era. When you are here, a visit to the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will make you wonder at its mind-blowing architecture. Do explore the Jagganath temple in Puri for a spiritual retreat. Enjoy the scrumptious sweet ‘Khaja’ and the delicious seafood.
5. Lokmanya Tilak - Ratnagiri
‘Swarajya is my birthright, and I shall have it!’ Reading it, didn’t it give you goosebumps? Well, this great leader was born in Ratnagiri. The places you can explore includes Ratnadurg Fort, Ganapatipule - a seashore adorned with a beautiful Ganpati temple and the historic Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Smarak. This place is also well-known for its Alphonso mangoes.
6. Mahatma Gandhi - Porbandar, Gujarat
The Father of our Nation who fought for our freedom by practising non-violence was born in Porbandar. When you are in Porbandar, do visit Kirti Mandir - the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Hari Mandir, Bileshwara Shiva temple and the Barda Wildlife sanctuary.
7. Tipu Sultan - Mysore
Well, I guess we really had a good time watching the television show ‘The Sword of Tipu Sultan’ depicting the life of this famous ruler?
