Held at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Met Gala also known as the Costume Institute Gala, took place this year on the 7th May - the first Monday of May. Every year, the Met Gala has a theme; celebrities from films, music, fashion and art dress up to match the theme and walk on the red carpet.

Theme for 2018 - Heavenly Bodies Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.The event was co-hosted by Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace.

The exhibition showcased the creative renditions of well-known designers like Christopher Kane, Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier and Jeremy Scott. The event was attended by Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone from India.

1. Other than hosting the Met Gala, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is recognised as the third most visited art museum in the world. In 2016, officials announced that a record 7.06 million people visited this museum.

2. Its permanent collection consists of more than 2 million works. The collection includes Asian, Egyptian, American, African, Oceanian, Byzantine, Islamic and modern art. This place also houses costumes, accessories, antique weapons and musical instruments from across the globe.

3. It was one of the shooting locations for the popular American romantic comedy movie ‘When Harry Met Sally’ starring Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal.

Other places of interest in New York include Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Rock Observation Deck, Broadway and the Theater District, Times Square and the Brooklyn Bridge

Next year, the Met Gala will take place on 6th May, 2019.
