When travelling to Dubai, tourists shouldn't restrict themselves to malls and restaurants, but instead, also take some time out to visit the beautiful natural spots. There are many popular as well as hidden gems natural spots in UAE.
We have listed a few spots in and around Dubai for nature lovers to visit.
1. Big Red, Dubai
Big Red is the largest sand dune close to the city making it an ideal spot for those wanting to indulge in some thrilling desert activities. Some exciting sports you could try here are sand-boarding, jeep off-road driving, Dune buggy or a Quad bike. If you are not one for sports, you could just admire the red sand desert, with dunes that go up to 300 feet high and click a few pictures for the gram.
2. Jubail Mangrove Park, Abu Dhabi
A self-contained educational, nature and leisure destination located in Abu Dhabi. The park is mainly known for its mangrove sanctuary. As you stroll through the boardwalks, you can spot turtles, herons, gazelle etc. A walk here will take you closer to nature.
3. Masfout, Ajman
Masfout makes for a refreshing escape from the heat. Located at a higher altitude on the outskirts of Ajman. A favourite amongst hikers, you could also enjoy a walk, mountain biking or a picnic near the wadi.
4. Bu Tinah Island
It is the first and largest UNESCO recognized reserve in the region. Endangered species of the Hawkbill turtle call this place home. You can also spot dolphins, flying fish, Osprey and other creatures of the ocean as the sea is clear and shallow.
5. Hatta
A favourite spot of the residents and only an hours drive away from Dubai. Hatta is famous for its turquoise pools of natural water amidst rocky mountains. You could also visit the nearby Hatta dam. If you craving a little adventure, you could hike through Hatta or enjoy water activities like Kayaking or stand up paddle-boarding on the Hatta lake.
6. Fossil Rock, Al Awir
A surreal place is known for its 80 million years old fossils located at Al Awir. When you arrive here, take a moment to sit amongst the fossils, enjoy the clear blue sky and the dessert, appreciating UAE’s natural beauty. You could also enjoy desert sports here.
7. The Wasit Nature Reserve, Sharjah-Ajman Border
Originally used to dump trash and waste-water and now converted into a 4.5 sq kilometre natural reserve. The rehabilitation process started in 2005. Now with almost 150 species of birds, both resident and flocking from around the world, The Wasit Nature Reserve was declared a protected area in 2007
8. Al Zorah Nature Reserve Located in the Emirate of Ajman
One million square metres of natural mangroves, landscaped gardens, sand dunes and beaches, makes Al Zohra Natural Reserve a popular eco-tourism place. It was established in the year 2004 to preserve endangered species of flora and fauna. It is home to nearly 58 species of birds like pink flamingo and heron.
9. Umm Al Quwain Wetlands
Khor al-Beida is a tidal wetland in Umm al Quwain. This Island is a perfect location for bird watchers and nature lovers. Surrounded by small islands and built near a prominent blue lagoon, the wetlands are perfect to explore by a kayak or boat. It is also a great place for camping.
10. The Green Planet, Dubai
An ecosystem inside a dome? That's what you will find here at the Green Planet. Home to over 3000 species of plants and animals, brought in from places like South America. At this indoor tropical rain-forest, you will find sloths, piranha's, Squirrel monkey, Python, Sugar glider and also a bat cave!
