Jaipur gets UNESCO World Heritage status

July 9, 2019
“Jaipur is the finest jewelry ever created on earth, where king was the jeweler and bricks his gems.”

The walled city of Jaipur has made an official entry into the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Jaipur is the second Indian city to get the UNESCO World Heritage status after Ahmedabad.

The Ministry of Culture released an official statement thanking the committee for recognizing the significance of this historic city. "The City of Jaipur is an exceptional urban example in indigenous city planning and construction in South Asia,” the ministry said.

Built-in line with Vedic architecture, the streets of Jaipur reflect ancient Indian and Mughal civic ideas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "Jaipur is a city associated with culture and valor. Elegant and energetic, Jaipur's hospitality draws people from all over. Glad that this city has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO."

The heritage status will help boost Jaipur’s tourism and initiate conservation projects.

With Jaipur entering the list, India now has 38 world heritage sites.
