When India bagged Gold in Field Hockey

Everybody’s talking about the Bollywood movie ‘Gold’. Well, it comes at the perfect time, when we gear up to celebrate our Independence Day! In this film - Akshay Kumar plays Tapan Das, a character inspired by the Indian field hockey player - Kishan Lal. He was the captain of the Indian hockey team at the 1948 Olympics.

It was held at the Wembley Stadium in England. As an independent nation, India won its first gold at the Olympics in field hockey on 12th August 1948. After Pakistan lost to Britain, the final match was played between India and Britain. India defeated Britain, 4-0.
