1. Ayutthaya


Sitting on an island surrounded by three rivers that eventually connects to the Gulf of Siam, Ayutthaya is probably one of the most spectacular cities of Thailand. Founded in 1350, it has around 3 palaces and more than 400 beautiful temples. It used to be the capital of Thailand until the Burmese attack of 1767. Today the ruins of the attack are considered as an important visiting spot.
