    10 Things about India’s first train with glass roofs and rotating chairs

    Your train journeys need not be long and boring anymore! While we are seeing a noticeable difference in the railways over the past few years, we are also seeing an addition of new trains like Gatimaan Express and the very new entrant, India’s first ever Vistadome train. Kudos to Suresh Prabhu, the railway minister and his team for bringing this one-of-a-kind experience to India on the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul passenger train.

  • 1. The train will pass through the verdantly gorgeous Araku valley nestled in Vishakhapatnam

  • 2. Almost Rs 3.38 crores were spent on this project

  • 3. This air-conditioned train not only has a glass dome, but also has features like LED lights, rotatable seats and GPS-based information system

  • 4. This coach has double-wide reclining seats that can be rotated 360 degrees for a panoramic experience

  • 5. All you have to do is sit back and relax in your 360 degrees rotatable chair and enjoy the vistas of the surrounding Ananthagiri ghats and Borra caves

  • 6. There’s also an observation lounge that offers you breathtaking views of the 128-km rail route that traverses a beautiful valley

  • 7. With glass roofs, automatic sliding doors and multi-tier luggage storage system, this train is set to redefine travel in India

  • 8. As of now, there is only one coach with 40 seats on this train; one more coach is due in course

  • 9. The train was flagged on April 17, 2017, for a successfully completed trial run

  • 10. There are plans to introduce a similar coach in the north-east as well
