Valley Of Flowers, Uttarakhand

We caught your attention didn’t we? You don’t need to spend big bucks on flight tickets and go all the way to the Netherlands to experience the wonder of nature. Yes the Tulip Gardens or Keukenhof is a famous spot, but there’s something a lot closer to home and just as spectacular. The valley of flowers in Uttarakhand.

The What?

A beautiful location, the Valley of Flowers is where you go to fall in love with nature. This is the land where nature rules, and man is but just a mere guest. Frozen during the colder months, during summer it brightens up with the flowers that bloom, painting them in vivid colours. Flowers like the Blue Poppy, The Cobra Lily and many more you’ve never heard of, call this place their home.

Not just the flora, there’s even a wide variety of fauna that can be found here. The Asiatic Black Deer, snow leopard, brown bear, the red fox and the blue sheep are just some of the unique animals you’ll find here.

The Where?

A meadow of alpine flowers, the Valley of Flowers is located in Uttarakhand. Found in a high altitude Himalayan Valley, it’s difficult to access, but worth every effort. All good things come at a price, and so is the case with this. To reach this place it’s a journey in itself.

The nearest airport is Dehradun. To get to this place it’s a 10-hour drive from Dehradun to Joshimath. From there on it’s a further 3 km trek of steep roads to the flowery oasis.

Now if you’re wondering why put yourself through all this strenuous effort, then just take a look at all these beautiful photos adorning our blog. Now just imagine how much more potent and sublime they’d look in reality!

The When?

The best time to visit the valley of flowers is from the beginning of June till the end of October. The rest of the year, it’s covered with a white sheet of snow. The temperature tends to be quite low early in the morning and late at night, so pack accordingly.

Hopefully you’re convinced by now and warming up to the idea of getting your Uttarakhand tour packages. So the next time you feel the urge to witness the glory of nature, remember you have other options than the Tulip Gardens. Something right here at home to be proud of.
