Founded in 1350, it has around 3 palaces and more than 400 beautiful temples. It used to be the capital of Thailand until the Burmese attack of 1767. Today the ruins of the attack are considered as an important visiting spot.
2. Chiang Mai
A flourishing city, the lush landscapes and the hilly outdoors makes it an important locale for backpackers. There are many historic centres that give you a view of the old city walls. Apart from culture, history and nature, Chiang Mai is also known as a centre of Buddhism in northern Thailand.
3. Chon Buri
Located 50 miles away from Bangkok, Chon Buri is the place where Bangkokians go for a weekend getaway. With an abundance of nature, Chon Buri is known for its seaside resorts where you can put up your feet and relax.
4. Sukhothai
Most of you might be familiar with this name, as a very famous spa chain in India. But it also happens to be a real place in Thailand. The Sukhothai historical park has been named as a UNESCO world heritage site and is known for its graceful Buddhas.
5. Kanchanaburi
Located in the western part of Thailand, if outdoor activities is your thing then Kanchanaburi is your place. From rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, star gazing to enjoying in the waterfalls, you can do it all here.
6. Ratchaburi
The main attraction of Ratchaburi happens to be the Damnoen Saduk floating market. You can get everything from shawls, souvenirs, vegetables, fruits, flowers, to freshly cooked noodles. It’s like your everyday regular market, except it’s boats on water.
7. Railay
Often written as Rai Leh, it’s a small peninsula that is accessible only by boat. Lot’s of greenery can be found here along with luxury resorts and bungalows which are often well hidden in the green landscape. Beautiful beaches is what Railay is known for.
