One of the most popular tourist destinations in North India, Chandigarh serves as the capital city to the states of Haryana as well as Punjab. As a matter of fact, even the Chandigarh International Airport serves both the states.
Strategically located in the village of Jhiurheri in Mohali, just 12 km away from the city centre, the airport majorly serves domestic carriers. Chandigarh Airport is connected to all the major cities of India via numerous airlines including Indigo Airlines, Jet Airways, GoAir, JetLite and SpiceJet.
The new international terminal of the airport was inaugurated in September 2015, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Developed by Larsen and Toubro Construction, this terminal is designed to be eco-friendly. The terminal boasts of as many as 4 aerobridges apron for parking, along with 8 remote parking stands for aircrafts.
However, the runway of the airport is comparatively short with a length of meagrely 9,000 feet and can hence only support narrow-bodied aircrafts.
