Getting its name from the first Chief Minister of Assam, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati was earlier known as Borjhar Airport due to its location in Bhorjar, a town situated at a distance of 29 km from Guwahati.
Essentially an international airport, it is the largest as well as the busiest airport in North-East India. The Guwahati International Airport boasts of two terminals, wherein Terminal 1 caters to domestic flights to various cities across India. It has a capacity of holding up to 500 passengers at any given point in time. On the other hand Terminal 2, which can only entertain 125 passengers at any point in time caters to international flights. Both the terminals together house a total of 14 check-in counters, 4 immigration counters along with 1 customs counter.
Acting as the gateway to the north-eastern part of the country, the airport enjoys great connectivity with all the major cities of the country. It is also connected to Bangkok via the international flights operated by Druk Air.
