The third busiest airport in North-East India, the Agartala Airport is situated at a distance of 12 km from the city centre. Serving the state of Tripura, the airport was established back in the year 1942 by the then ruler Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
The airport is renowned for being used in the Second World War by the 4th Combat Cargo Group. The airport houses a single terminal with a passenger holding capacity of 250, both for arrivals as well as for departures. The terminal is equipped with 14 check-in counters, 4 security counters and an immigration counter. This airport offers regular flight services to a large number of cities across India, of which Kolkata and Guwahati are the most frequented destinations. This airport is prominently served by Spice Jet, Indigo, and Air India along with a few other domestic airlines.
