Kanpur Airport

Essentially a public airport, the Kanpur Airport initially served the Indian Air Force exclusively and is hence also known as the Chakeri Air Force Station.

It was in the late seventies, that the airport kick-started a few regular flights to important cities like New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata amongst others. However, due to the airport’s close proximity to the much larger and better connected Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport of Lucknow, the Kanpur airport witnessed a decrease in passenger traffic and thus had to reduce its flight operations.

Currently, the airport facilitates daily flights to only one destination, i.e. New Delhi. The airport houses a single terminal complete with one check-in counter, one security counter and two boarding gates. Spanning over an area of 390 square meters, the terminal has a passenger handling capacity of 50, for both arrivals and departures.

In anticipation of an increase in passenger traffic, the airport is slated to undergo major renovation and expansion activity in the near future.
