Named after the renowned political leader and freedom fighter, the Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport of Patna is located at a distance of 5 km from the city centre. Owned and operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airport is slated to be transferred to the Bihar Government. Ranking as the 21st busiest airport in the nation, the airport serves over 2 million passengers annually.
Spanning over an area of 254 acres, the airport currently houses one 2000-metre Asphalt runway. In addition, the airport houses two passenger terminals, of which Terminal 1 serves all domestic carriers, while Terminal 2 currently lies dormant and is awaiting refurbishment, and hence caters only to private jets and cargo airlines. The airport also enjoys a dedicated cargo terminal.
