Getting its name from the founder of the city, Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport of Amritsar is located on the Amritsar-Ajnala road, at a distance of about 11 km from the city. Essentially built to serve the state of Punjab along with the nearby states of Jammu and Himachal Pradesh, more than 100 domestic and international flights operate from this airport.
In the year 2009, the airport was expanded through a new integrated terminal, which not only helped double its capacity but also gave way to structural changes, expansion of runways, parking bays as well as cargo handling facilities.
The airport boasts of 4 aerobridges, 30 check-in counters, 26 immigration counters and as many as 10 customs counters. Serving close to 1.5 million passengers annually, the airport not only offers great connectivity to all the major cities of India but also offers international flight services to various cities of the Middle East, Birmingham as well as Tashkent amongst other destinations.
