Located at a distance of about 10 km from the city, the Gwalior Airport is also known as the Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia Air Terminal, after one of the most prominent ladies of the city. Essentially a civil enclave, the airport is a part of the Maharajpur Air Force Station.
After the second runway of the airbase became operational in the year 2010, Gwalior Air Base became the first to provide the support of two operational runways to the Indian Air Force.
An airport with comparatively low passenger traffic, it houses a single terminal. Spanning over a modest area of 1,600 sqm metres, the terminal is equipped with a passenger handling capacity of 100 passengers, for arrivals as well as departures. Facilitated with 2 check-in counters and a security counter, the airport offers a wide array of modern-day amenities to its passengers.
With Air India being the most prominent airline which serves this airport, the Gwalior airport enjoys and appreciable connectivity to the cities of Mumbai and Agra, along with low-frequency flights to other major cities across the nation such as Udaipur, Delhi, Nagpur and Hyderabad amongst others.
This airport also supports the operations of chartered flights and government carriers.
