Named after one of the chief architects of the Indian constitution, the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport of Nagpur was established back in the year 1918, at the time of the First World War.
Spanning over a massive area of 1,460 acres, the airport also serves as a home to the AFS Nagpur of the Indian Air Force.
In the year 2008, the airport got a new terminal building which was upgraded with all the modern amenities. Apart from its terminals, the airport also houses a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility set up by Boeing, an American aircraft manufacturing company, which is spread over an area of 50 acres.
The airport is known to offer regular flight services to all the major cities of India, through the prominent domestic carriers. International flight services from the airport are directed to and from Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai, London, Beijing, Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt Amsterdam, and Zurich.
