Located in the Gannavaram region, about 13 km from the city centre, the Vijayawada Airport is essentially a public domestic airport. Spread over an area of 500 acres, this airport facilitates the connectivity of Andhra Pradesh with the leading cities of India. While it served as an army base at the time of World War II, it was later established as a civilian airport.
With a single terminal housing 9 check-in counters and a security counter, the airport has a modest passenger holding capacity of 150. Premium airline like Jet Airways, Spice Jet and Air India offer regular flights to and from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Chennai, Delhi, Tirupati, and Mumbai.
Currently, the airport is fairly small, and lack the modern day amenities. Hence, there are ongoing discussions about its renovation and expansion.
