Essentially a public airport, the Aurangabad airport is located at a convenient distance of 5.5 km from city centre and about 11 km from the city’s railway station. Owned and operated by AAI or the Airports Authority of India, this airport is also known as the Chikkalthana Airport.
The airport has witnessed upgradation in various phases, including the extension of the runway in 005, and the construction of a new integrated terminal in the year 2008. It was post these phases of renovation and expansion, that the airport was reopened in the year 2008. However, regular operations commenced only in March 2009.
The airfield of this airport features an Asphalt Runway. 2,835 metres in length this runway is equipped with ILS complete with two parking aprons, one for passenger and the other dedicated to cargo terminal.
While it is a domestic airport, it does avail international flight services to Jeddah for Hajj Pilgrims.
