The Biju Patnaik International Airport of Bhubaneshwar gets its name from the former Chief Minister of Orissa, who also was a renowned aviator and a freedom fighter. Located at a distance of 3 km from the city, the airport was granted its ‘International’ status in the year 2013. However, it was only in July of 2015, that the first international flight took off from here.
Housing two terminals, the airport enjoys an annual handling capacity of 4 million passengers. While the Terminal 1 is designated to the arrival and departures of passengers flying domestically, Terminal 2 handles all international carriers.
With airlines like Indigo, Air India and Go Air serving the airport, it is well-connected to all the major cities of the nation. Needless to say, Mumbai and Delhi are the most frequented destinations from this airport. Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia is the most frequented international destination from this airport.
