Boasting of being the most prominent international airport in North-East India, next only to Guwahati, the Imphal airport essentially serves the state of Manipur. Located at a distance of 8 km from the city, the airport served as the supply airfield for allied forces during the Second World War. This airport was initially called the Imphal RAF station.
The airport houses a single integrated terminal which caters to the domestic as well as international passengers. Developed over an area of 7,500 square meters, the terminal enjoys an impressive passenger holding capacity of 350 each, for departures as well as arrivals. The 10 check-in counters make the experience at the airport fairly convenient for the passengers.
The airport offers commendable connectivity to the major cities across India such as Delhi and Bengaluru, it also avails flight services to certain regional airports such as that of Aizawl, Silchar and Jorhat amongst others.
Once completely developed, the airport is slated to offer flight services to international destinations such as Bangkok, Rangoon, and Naypyidaw.
