Located at a distance of 3 km from the city centre, the Jodhpur Airport of Rajasthan is essentially a civil enclave. This public airport is also shared by the Jodhpur Air Base of the Indian Air Force. The airport was originally established as a small airfield by the ruling king, Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1920s as was named as ‘Jodhpur Flying Club’. Some years later, the airport was used in the Second World War, as the airfield for the Royal Air Force.
Till the year 1965, the airport was used by the IAF Flying College, after which it was formally declared to be public domestic airport. The airport houses a single terminal, which is equipped with as many as 7 check-in counters.
This airport is served by numerous domestic airlines, the most prominent of which are Jet Airways and Air India. The airport enjoys appreciable connectivity with a large number of cities across India, with Bengaluru and Delhi being the most frequented destinations from Jodhpur.
