Located in the Hinoo area, at a distance of 7 kilometres from the city, the Birsa Munda Airport of Ranchi gets its name from the esteemed tribal leader and freedom fighter. Established back in the year 1995, this airport has helped boost the tourism sector of Jharkhand ever since.
The airport enjoys a single terminal, which was expanded, renovated and equipped with modern amenities. This new terminal was inaugurated in the year 2013, by the then civil aviation minister Mr Ajit Singh.
The airport offers appreciable connectivity to the major cities of India, thanks to the domestic flight services offered by airlines like Jet Airways, Air India and Indigo. New Delhi and Kolkata are the most frequented destinations from this airport.
Essentially a domestic airport, the Birsa Munda airport offers international flight services to Jeddah for Hajj pilgrims as an exception.
