1. Pan-American Highway
Total length: 48,000 kms
As per the Guinness Book of World Records, Pan American Highway is the world’s longest motorable road. Apart from the 100-km-long Darien Gap, the highway links most of the nations of North and South America.
2. Highway 1, Australia
Length: 14,500 kms
Although this is the second largest road in the world, it is way smaller than Pan American Highway. Highway 1 can take 3 rounds of Pan-American Highway, yet it joins the all the mainland capitals of Australia. This highway was constructed almost half a century ago.
3. Trans-Siberian Highway
Length: 11,000 kms
A nexus of 7 roads stretching from the far ends of Russia from the Trans-Siberian Highway. Right from the Baltic Sea of Russia to the Sea of Japan in the Atlantic Ocean, this extensive stretch of road connects Russia in an enormous way, taking convenience to a new level.
4. Trans-Canada Highway
Length: 7,821 kms
Transcending the continental boundaries, the Trans-Canada Highway travels through all the ten Canadian provinces. Commenced in 1962, the highway crosses the Pacific Ocean on the west to the Atlantic Ocean on the east.
5. Golden Quadrilateral Highway, India
Length: 5,846 km
Uniting four major metropolitan cities, the Golden Quadrilateral Highway connects Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, forming a quadrilateral shape. The largest highway in India, the work for this project began in 2001 and was completed in 2012.
6. China National Highway 010
Length: 5,700 km
Also known by the name of Tongsan Expressway, the highway goes from Tongjiang in Heilongjiang to Sanya in Hainan. It is the longest highway in China and is a part of the five north-south and seven east-west main routes in China.
7. US Route 20
Length: 5,415 km
An east-west route, the route skirts along the coastal edge of USA. This coast-to-coast route has its eastern terminus in Boston and western in Newport. There is an interruption at Yellowstone National Park and it also overlaps US 30 at a junction.
