Oymyakon is a small town located 320 miles from the Arctic Circle. With around 500 inhabitants, Oymyakon experiences extreme weather conditions during winter and is popularly known as the coldest town on earth or the ‘The Pole of the Cold’. Temperatures in the past have dipped to -90 degrees Fahrenheit. With an average winter temperature of – 50 degrees, the locals have adapted themselves to the climate.

Every winter, the 'Cold Pole Festival' is hosted by Chyskhaan, the Yakutian Lord of Frost.
Oymyakon in the local language means 'unfrozen river'.
To reach this town, it takes a 2-day drive from the nearest airport in Yakutsk.
