Here is our take on the technology that will shape the future of how we travel in 2017 and beyond.

The age of selfies will slowly shift towards drone photography or ‘dronfie’. The use of drones is predicted to reach a million by next year. Drones will give you the best aerial shots ever. Operating a drone is not everybody’s thing, you need to know how to fly a quadcopter so that you don’t crash it on someone’s head.

Trans-Siberian Railway

The new Trans-Siberian Railway that is making news recently has expressed its plans to expand its route right up to Japan. If things go well, then it could be possible to travel all the way to London from Japan, although in the first stage, it’ll extend only up to Japan.

360 degree videos

Dynamism is the new evolving travel trend. From black and white, we went to color. From pictures, we moved on to motion photography. Today in the world of a million mockable memes and gifs, we are progressing towards 360-degree video-making that lets you span over the entire landscape as you touch or scroll the screen. So while you are at your desk, you can actually get a feel of how it looks from the Singapore Flyer or the Grand Canyon, or what a paraglider sees from his perspective.

City-chopper rides

In the past, we have seen Uber come with chopper rides of your favorite city. With its amazing partnership endeavors, it has offered to give a different view of the city that you live and work in every day. We see that such innovative ideas are going to make it huge in 2017.

Virtual reality gives you the luxury of going on a vacation, without actually taking one. While that sounds strange, virtual reality is used as a stimulus to boost your wanderlust. By automatic transmit, we do not mean that your longstanding dream of teleporting is finally coming true. We mean that the process of automation will advance a step further by introducing biometrics at the airport. Facial recognition will further make the check-in-check-out process smoother and faster.

RFID tagging on luggage

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has the ability to transmit data wirelessly using radio waves by simply using an attachable-detachable tag onto your bag. This eliminates the risk of lost baggage and helps to identify its location, in case of any mishap. This will be a boon to both airlines and travelers as it reduces cost and increases efficiency.

Personalised travel

With social sign-ins, personalized integrations, and predictions based on your search pattern and location, personalized travel is not too far away. Today, everything that we search for is on record. This downpour will lead to the personalization of travel and intelligent recommendations will change the role of a travel agency from ‘order taker’ to a ‘smart travel consultant’.

Since time immemorial, we have had debates over the technology being a boon or bane, but the truth is, however imprisoning their habits are, they do make our life easier. With intelligent predictions and technologies getting smarter, our privacy is surely getting compromised. However, we have to decide between the lesser of a devil.
