Temples

Sri Mariamman temple

Sri Mariamman is Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple founded in 1827. It is situated in the downtown region of the Chinatown district. Built-in the Dravidian style, it’s a sight of pure beauty. The external façade is just as beautiful as the internal and you won’t be able to take your eyes off.

Thekchen Choling Buddhist temple

This temple is located at 2 Beatty Lane. Thekchen Choling is a registered Buddhist organization under the Republic of Singapore. They practice and preach the teachings of Buddhism. Along with being a spiritual site, the temple also has weekly teachings in English and Mandarin.

Churches and Cathedrals

Armenian Church

The Armenian Church is the oldest Christian church in Singapore. It’s located on Hill Street in Singapore’s central business district. It has a symmetrical elegant design. The architecture of the church is such that it takes into consideration the hot tropical climate of the city. It has wide verandahs, heavy downpours, and windows that facilitate cross ventilation.

St Andrew’s Cathedral

The St Andrew’s Cathedral in Singapore is an Anglican Cathedral. Located in the City Hall it is the country’s largest cathedral. It is designed in Palladian style, which is essentially European architecture. The interior of the cathedral is just as beautiful as the exterior.

Mosques

Masjid Sultan

Located at Muscat Street and North Bridge Road, this is one of the most important mosques of Singapore. When you see a big Golden dome looming large you’ll know the mosque is nearby. The exterior of the mosque evokes a sense of royalty. Built along with the Saracenic style it took 4 years to build. The Masjid Sultan mosque is essentially unchanged, with only a few repairs carried out here and there.

Masjid Abdul Gaffoor

This mosque of Singapore is located in Little India. Verandahs enclosed by a balustrade, stained glasses, beautiful sundials with intricate carvings, and exquisite minarets all make this mosque picture perfect. The construction of this mosque began in 1907 and took quite a few years to complete. But things of pure beauty generally do.
