The normal validity of issued passport is limited. For the passport renewal process, you will require to produce relevant documents and follow a particular process to get it renewed. Remember that, there is a difference between renewal and re-issue of the passport. Understand the difference and apply for the required process carefully to avoid any trouble. Here is the process of application in brief to help you to get through the renewal process in a hassle-free manner.

    How to Apply:

    You can apply for the passport renewal process through online mediums:-


    Process for online medium:

    • Register yourself with the required details to initiate the process at Passport Seva website.
    • If you are an existing user, just login to your account with the allotted ID and password.
    • Select the Passport Seva Kendra near your location or current address
    • After registering, you will receive an email on the registered mail address.
    • Activate the account and follow the link attached in the email
    • Apply for the fresh passport or renewal of the passport with the required details
    • The applicant can fill the form either on the system available online or can download the form in the PDF format and update the information required in the blank form.
    • Update the details however you like and update the changes if any.
    • The applicant needs to provide two local references for the step of police verification at their mentioned address. The applicant has to provide full name, address, and phone number of the references..
    • Submit the application form to complete the process.
    • Proceed for the payment, despite of the mode of application.
    • Book a slot for the appointment for the verification process.
    • Visit the allotted passport office on time for the appointment.

    • Old passport (original)
    • For short validity passport application, you will need self attested copy of validity extension page
    • Self attested copy of ECR/non-ECR page
    • A self-attested clear copy of first two pages and last two pages of passport

    While applying for the passport renewal process and verification of the same, you need to remember a few things to avoid any problem:-

    • Don’t forget to carry original expired or to-be-expired copy of passport.
    • Attach the required documents with the clear copies.
    • Keep the signature same throughout all the platforms to avoid rejection.Reach the allotted PSK on time to avoid any problems.
    • You will not require submitting the original documents anywhere yet you need to carry the originals for the verification process.
